On Thursday February 9th, Stacey MacArthur, a junior point guard, stepped up to the foul line at Christopher Dock’s gymnasium.
The Lady Knights Varsity girls’ team had lost to Dock almost a month before; 25 to 36.  Stacey had only two goals this game: to win, and to rack up a couple more points to achieve 1000 points.  That goal was accomplished! With all of her friends and family there to encourage and support her, the next point she would make would send her into the 1000 point club! Stacey says, “Achieving that goal of 1000 points was an incredible experience.  It was nice to see my many years of hard work and practice pay off.”  Stacey made her shot in the fourth quarter with 2 minutes and 58 seconds left in the game.  The score at that point was Dock 28, Delco 24.  After she made her foul shot, the game was stopped, her teammates, on and off the bench, ran to embraced her with hugs.  Stacey’s mom, dad, and siblings ran onto the court to take pictures.  The crowd was going wild in excitement!  After taking pictures, the basketball was given to her family to take with them as they went back into the stands.  After the quick pause to take pictures and congratulate her for her amazing accomplishment, the game continued.  It was a close game; however, the Lady Knight’s went on to win the game against Christopher Dock 33 to 30.  Though one of her biggest goals has already been accomplished, Stacey and her team are looking forward to reaching their goals of becoming league and district champions, and going far into the state playoffs.
The team has had a great year so far even though they are a very young team.  Sophomore Jamie Barr says, “This year has been extremely fun because we are a young team, and no one expected us to go this far and to win districts and go to states.”  She also says as a team they are getting used to playing with each other and becoming better friends on and off the court.  Their coaches have had a great experience this year.  Coach Sweeney says this year has been “exciting and rewarding watching the students reach their potential as players.”
